About Us
Innovation
Since 1972, Smith Performance Specialties has been known for its innovative chassis engineering which is proven at drag strips through out the U.S.A. and Canada. Back in 1987, the SPS-built Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera became the prototype of a front-wheel drive car transformed into a rear-wheel drive race car. This Ciera became the model for N.H.R.A.’s guidelines on front-wheel drive conversions
Quality Experience
After that first Ciera rolled out of our Cayuga, Ontario shop, the SPS work force of talented individuals have constructed more than 160 front-wheel drive conversions for accomplished racers in North America.
F.J. Smith Racing
F.J. Smith
F.J. Smith has more than 25 years of racing experience to his credit. F.J. never stops working inside and outside of the shop, using his daughter’s new 2004 Pontiac Sunfire as a test bed for his continuous engineering process. Racing with the NHRA series and the Wix Filters/Smith Performance series in Ontario, F.J. has driven his own car to two divisional wins, both at Indianapolis Raceway Park, and has over 50 Best Engineered and Class winner trophies.
Victoria Smith
Victoria may have grown up at the race track, but the 2001 season marked her first time at the wheel of her own race truck. It hasn’t taken long for her to master the Chevrolet S-10, driven by a 350 CI 255HP engine. Making her start, Victoria raced with the Wix Filters/Smith Performance Series in Ontario.
SPS has since constructed a new 2004 Pontiac Sunfire that Victoria races in Super Stock with the IHRA/NHRA and the Wix Filters/Smith Performance Series. A recent winner of Best Engineered, the car is an asset to SPS’ continual chassis and engine research and development, featuring a SFI 25.1E chassis.
